The Greek Hens

After the big muddy roundup yesterday in the rain, I came home to see all the hens on the side porch waiting for the rain to stop.

The ducks were enjoying all the muddy morsels that they found while grazing, but they kept running back to the hens hoping to entice them to come join the fun.

They would have no part of it.

I sat in my truck for awhile waiting for the rain to slow down so I could exit.

I watched the flock stand on the porch watching the rain.

Neither one of us wanting to leave our place of comfort.

(We are) Two species both "chicken" to go outside and get soaked.

I might add that Farm Dog Mavis stayed home this morning during the steer catching event and is probably all nice and warm on her dog bed taking a nap.

I finally had to make a decision and leave the comfort of my vehicle and head for the house.

The hens would not budge an inch from their place on the porch.

In my canvas bag, in my truck, I had found a container of Greek yogurt that I had forgotten about for a few days, so I put it down for the flock, anticipating that only the ducks would come get it in the rain.

Here is what happened:

The ducks got no yogurt, and I got TWO eggs this morning, which is a 50% improvement over yesterday!!!

So my unofficial research shows that hens will chose Greek Yogurt over worms when its raining AND that Greek yogurt is more effective in raising egg production than solar candlestick lights are.

Who knew ?
