Friday Fences

At rest for the winter, farm equipment is parked out of the harsh elements for a few months.

Although it looks like the hay equipment isn't doing anything, it serves many purposes as it sleeps in the shed.

Mice have built nests in the interiors of the haybines and rakes. Snakes are hibernating in the hay still left in the equipment. Birds will use the "left overs" to nest in when spring gets closer.

Every farm has outbuildings that are used for storage or making different products, like maple syrup.

Soon there will be sweet smoke billowing out of the stack as the tastiest liquid in the world is made in Vermont.

What do you have in your outbuildings?

  1. Well, all we have is two garages...and there is a little bit of this and a little bit of that in them...plus some junk!

  2. I love that tasty syrup that's made in Vermont! I have a quart of it right now for on my pancakes... on for in my homemade granola. Lucky me...I'm the only one in my family who likes it, so it will last a long, long time! :)

  5. We don't have the type you describe, per se. One is a 10' x 10' shelter, currently housing gas cans (safely away from all else) and roofing for undone projects.

The other is a wood/garden/trash shed. It doesn't have big enough openings to house much more than what's specified.

And then the 105' x 30' barn, which houses as much as we can fit in. Unfortunately, the car, truck, tractor, and manure spreader must be out in the weather. Maybe some day....

  6. Gardening tools, chooks, work benches, old stuff we don't use any more, mice and nesting birds.

  7. It's been a long time since I visited a sugarbush and a sugar house, but I still remember the billows of sweet steam surrounding me. Oh, delicious!
