New Calves in the Fog

I check the herd every morning looking for new calves.

I am seldom disappointed.

However, the recent thick morning fog has really caused a lot of guessing games.

I found my largest cow, Gracie, gazing over the fence one recent morning and knew that she would calve very very soon.   Gracie prefers to calve on the other side of the fence.  Her interest in the field on the other side of her pasture only confirmed there was a new calf just a few hours away.

Her bag was getting larger and larger by the minute.

She wouldn't even look at me.

I finally said good bye and headed off to work.

I wondered what I would find when I headed home later.  Of course I fantasized about what it would look like if it was a bull calf or a heifer.

By the time I drove home I was exhausted and the rain clouds were starting to develop

I had to hike up to the field the herd was in.    I found the new calf in a valley, not far from where Gracie had been fence gazing.
The calf looked small, but I had to remind myself that I was way above them and my view was a bit distorted.

To me it looked like a heifer.

I walked down the hillside and was greeted by the sweet face of a large heifer.

She is 105 pounds and walking very well. She ran really well too.

These two have the look of mischief in their eyes. Don't you think?

The girl loves her milk and she drinks it perfectly, not wasting a drop.

I need some names for this big girl.   Prefer "G" names, but not entirely necessary.

Give me your best shot!
