Glennie's Hay Day

These are some photos of last month before we moved the herd to a mud-less field.

For those of you who email me cute comments and concerns about Glennie, here is what she had been up to:

She is growing, gaining 2 lbs a day. Still she manages to cram herself into the hay ring on a daily basis.

One of these days I will need the jaws of life to get her out.

  1. How the heck does she manage to get in there?

  2. Hi Janis, I had to show my son Kristopher your post. His reply, "is that the Smith farm?" A local farm owned by friends. He laughed, I guess it happens more often than not, calves are smarter than we think! Greetings, Julie.

  3. What a riot! Cows sure have a mind of their own, don't they ? Our new which side of the road they were supposed to be on (when they got out) and we had one that refused to cross the road for over a week. Nothing we did would get her across. The town threatened all sorts of action if we didn't do something (she would stand right at the very edge of the road). After about a week, she decided to come home. My father was not amused. Most everyone else in town got a good laugh over it ;)

  4. Once they get something in their head, it's a hard thing to change their habits! But it's such a comfortable bed! :)

  5. Glennie looks like a creature of comfort! I can't believe she squeezes in that thing! You might have to lubricate her to get her out, haha.

  6. I can hear that rescue call to 911:
Hello, I need help to extricate my cow from the hay ring. Well, it is where you put the hay to feed the cows, but they are not supposed to climb inside. If she got in, why can't she get out? That is hard to explain. Can you please come help?
    And bring a small crane.
