Today

Thankfully, we didn't get the predicted damaging frost last night.
It went down to 36 degrees.  I spent the morning uncovering my pole beans and other veggies plus collecting all my sheets out of my garden and then going down to the community garden and picking up all the blankets, sheets and towels we used to cover the veggies over there.
Then I went to visit my farmer friends on the way to go visit my cows.
Plans changed and I learned how to make round bales today.
A technical process, but I learned it quick and only made one big mistake. ( I prematurely opened the baler door..)  Will be doing more in the future and will do it in 5th or 6th gear. I used a cautious 4th gear today.
Saw lots of happy cows and then took Mavis fishing after our field work was done.
Caught a large mouth bass and met 3 nice people and an old german shepherd named Angel who were all enjoying the peace and quiet of the lake.

A good day.

  1. I don't want to think about frost around here for another month. It has been cooler this summer so who knows. The good thing is that the greens taste better after a few good frosts.

  2. Sounds like you have an all around good day--and a happy birthday one, too? Vermont looks so beautiful. When my husband gets overwhelmed by life he announces that he wants to move to Vermont. I'd go.

It looks like you had a grand day!

Glad you didn't get frost. They said 39 here, but I think it stayed in the low 40's.
