The Gold Barn

I was delighted to discover a barn painted Gold today.

Rarely do I ever see barns painted other than red or natural brown.

The snow made the barn glow in its goldness

Click on the photos to make them larger and more enjoyable.

A tractor peeks around the far right end of the lower level

A small silver grain silo is in front while the larger vintage silo peers over the top of the barn.

The gold color is so distinct I wondered why.  I thought about the possible breeds of cattle that would require a gold barn.  ( take a guess, now)

I could only think of one possibility and promised myself that I would come back in May and glimpse the cows as they were turned out to first spring grass, to see if my guess was the right one.

As I drove on down the road past their driveway I spotted their sign.

My guess was correct.

Golden Guernseys !     AND this farm is a Dairy of Distinction. The highest honor.

I will be back!

  7. Ah, yellow is my favorite color. Once had a soft-yellow house. (That hyphen is important... the color was soft... not the house.) My first thought was that the cost of a new barn is so great that it might as well be painted "gold". Then you taught me about the resident cows.
