Rarely do I ever see barns painted other than red or natural brown.
The snow made the barn glow in its goldness
Click on the photos to make them larger and more enjoyable.
A tractor peeks around the far right end of the lower level
A small silver grain silo is in front while the larger vintage silo peers over the top of the barn.
The gold color is so distinct I wondered why. I thought about the possible breeds of cattle that would require a gold barn. ( take a guess, now)
I could only think of one possibility and promised myself that I would come back in May and glimpse the cows as they were turned out to first spring grass, to see if my guess was the right one.
As I drove on down the road past their driveway I spotted their sign.
My guess was correct.
Golden Guernseys ! AND this farm is a Dairy of Distinction. The highest honor.
I will be back!

ReplyDeleteWOW A gold barn is quite a find!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool post! I love it!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I also guessed Guernsey, and am not a knowledgeable cow person...so am going to look forward to seeing them in the spring too! Does their milk taste better?
ReplyDeletei love these barns. there is the most gorgeous one right across from the seneca casino in new york state.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely barn! I don't think I've seen one painted that color either. It really warms up the landscape. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful barn...I bet I could count on one hand the number of gold barns I have seen.
ReplyDeleteAh, yellow is my favorite color. Once had a soft-yellow house. (That hyphen is important... the color was soft... not the house.) My first thought was that the cost of a new barn is so great that it might as well be painted "gold". Then you taught me about the resident cows.
ReplyDeleteSoooo Guernsey cows milk better in a gold barn?? who woulda thought! Nice pics.
ReplyDeleteThose big ol barns just fascinate me, what do they use all that space for? I really need to tour inside one sometime! =)
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that they chose to coordinate their barn color with their breed of cattle. It's a great barn!
ReplyDeleteThat is truly a beautiful barn and a very well kept farmyard! Can't wait to "meet" the cows! :)
ReplyDeleteOh that is a nice barn and I love Guernsey cows. B

ReplyDeleteMarvelous... I recently found heavy cream from a dairy that is all Jerseys and the cream is like heaven, just what I remember from the Jersey cows we had when I was a kid... love this yellow barn, it's well kept... nice to see that... Thank you for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #71!
